In June 2022, a fire broke out in one of the containers at the Sun’R site.
Thanks to its strong technical expertise in the analysis of energy storage systems, SERMA Group was called upon to assist a forensic expert and, in parallel, the Industrial Risk Investigation and Analysis Bureau in charge of the investigation to analysis the causes of the fire.
Our experts, Ludovic CAZALIS and Cyril Marino, went to the site to analyse the root causes of the fire.
After helping to open the container and take samples, and in order to analysis the causes of the fire, our SERMA experts:
– Analysed the debris collected on site
– Examined six BPUs for clues or anomalies through visual inspection and X-rays
– Examined three cycled modules to assess them and identify any electrical or construction anomalies
– Conducted stress and fault reproduction tests on a module to assess the impact of water droplets and, if necessary, immersion.
Through this intervention, SERMA contributed to improving technical knowledge about lithium battery failure modes and preventing future incidents.
