The ITSEF technical team is comprised of highly qualified professionals from the fields of microelectronics, software engineering and cryptanalysis. The technical team is working closely with ITSEF project managers who guarantee the respect of the evaluation scheme rules and are a unique interface to their customers for the successful realisation of their projects.
Hardware
The hardware team includes engineers having high expertise in signal processing and analysis, semi-conductor technologies, RF communication and laser beam technologies. It is in charge of performing analysis of side channel information leakage through current or electromagnetic signal observation and processing. The hardware team then leads semi invasive and invasive attacks such as circuit modification, reverse engineering, microprobing or fault injection attacks.
Cryptanalysis
All members of the cryptography team have a significant mathematical background oriented on modern cryptanalysis. The deep knowledge of standard symmetric and asymmetric cryptography (such as DES, AES, RSA or Elliptic Curves), public key infrastructure, cryptographic protocols (i.e. key agreements, mutual authentication schemes, secure channel protocols) and norms are key skills to successfully lead its activity: cryptographic design and code analysis, vulnerability analysis of algorithm implementations, evaluation of proprietary cryptographic schemes and cryptographic tests.
Software
The software engineering team is made of experts in high-level and low-level development languages, code analysis (manual and semi-automatic), modelling approaches and formal methods. Its main activities are software design analysis, code audit, vulnerability research and software penetration testing.
Project Manager
The project managers, in permanent connection with the technical team are the unique interface to their customers. They are committed to the respect of the customer's planning objectives while guaranteeing that all evaluation activities are led according to the evaluation scheme rules.
Quality
All ITSEF activities are supervised by an internal quality management team that controls evaluation work in compliance with ITSEF official and internal quality rules and procedures.
R&D
All technical teams lead permanent R&D in order to maintain their skills at the state of art in terms of vulnerability analysis and attacks, as well as to identify and set-up new ones. As such activity is an essential part of our work, the ITSEF invests in R&D about 30% of its annual turnover. The members of the ITSEF attend all major security related scientific conferences and workshops (CHES, JHAS, WG1, ICCC, eSmart, ...). A scientific collaboration is led together with universities (Bordeaux I University, ENSEIRB, ...) and scientific software and microelectronics laboratories (LaBRI, IXL, ...).
